Here is the third edition of our quarterly IT Market Snapshot report. The previous quarter report was produced during an ongoing pandemic and, for most of us, working from home. This time, we decided to focus our report purely on data, because we know this is the most important for you. We resigned from comments because after talking to hundreds of customers, we noticed that everyone’s situation is slightly different, and everyone has a different view of the current market situation. Have a pleasant reading!
The report concerns only job offers from broadly understood IT (programming, administration, IT project management, business intelligence, maintenance of IT systems).
Most of the analysis is based on the upper salary ranges because:
It looks like everything is slowly returning to normal.
In the previous report, we have written that the SARS-CoV-2 virus would undoubtedly affect the economy, we only did not know how much and what impact it would have on the IT sector.
Today, looking at the market situation, we see an increase in the number of job offers compared to Q1 2020, which may be a positive tune.
What is certain is that junior job offers have disappeared from the market, which is also confirmed by data from the career offices of technical universities (-55% of offers compared to the same period in 2019). The financial expectations of candidates for senior positions, however, have not changed due to the high demand for candidates who may have a real impact on project work in companies.
Compared to Q1 2020, we see an increase in offers with provided salary by 3%. This is a very positive trend as it is another quarter of increases in this aspect. More and more companies realize that IT offers are counted in thousands, so candidates have a real choice, so it seems completely natural that they focus more on offers that inform them in advance about the potential remuneration.
In the case of the market leader, 10% of job offers in the categories „IT Administration” and „IT Software Development” have information about the salary, which is an increase of 100% compared to the previous quarter. This is most likely due to the promotion of those IT-targeted offers with salary included.
For B2B contracts, the average level of the upper range is the highest in Warsaw and amounts to PLN 16,847. Companies from Krakow offer slightly less: 16 330 PLN.
For contracts of employment, the average upper range is the highest in Kraków and amounts to PLN 15,473. In Gdynia, earnings offered under a contract of employment are not much lower. Here, however, the number of job offers is significantly smaller.
Professionals in Łódź, Katowice and Poznań are less well-paid, where the CoE and B2B range are several thousand PLN less than the cities with the highest rates
For B2B contracts, the average level of the upper range is the highest in Warsaw and amounts to PLN 17,227. Companies from Krakow offer little less: PLN 16,441.
For contract of employment, the average upper limit is the highest in Kraków and amounts to PLN 14,014. In Gdynia in the previous quarter, earnings for B2B contracts were comparable to Krakow, but in this quarter they decreased by approximately 10% to PLN 15,599.
We also see a decline in earnings for both B2B and UoP contracts in all other cities shown in the graph.
There are no significant changes in the programming language category over the course of the quarter. According to other reports, JavaScript is the programming language most desired by employers. Java is right behind it. Python, Typescript and PHP are in the next places. In keeping with all the trends, Python is gaining ground.
Compared to the previous quarter, we see a decline in the offered salaries, e.g. for Scala, a decrease of almost 10% compared to the previous quarter. We know from conversations with our clients that companies that offer higher salaries have recorded much more organic applications in recent months, e.g. through their career websites. This is where we see the reasons for the decline in salaries offered on job boards.
Invariably, Big Data technologies are the best paid offers available on the market. In the previous quarter, Apache Flink, an enterprise Apex technology, was ranked number one in this field. Hadoop and Spark returned to the top of the list this quarter.
On the basis of the chart (comparing it with data from Q1 2020), we can still see an almost complete disappearance of junior offers.
We can also see that for backend seniors specializing in Java, the upper range of salaries has decreased.
There is a relationship between the rates offered and the size of the company, but it is small. An interesting relationship, however, occurs in the case of the salaries offered and the number of parallel job offers. It turns out that the more companies publish, the more they pay, as illustrated in the chart on the right.
It can be seen that companies publishing 1 job offer versus companies publishing 8 or more job offers simultaneously may differ by as much as PLN 5,000 when it comes to the average upper range.
Compared to the previous quarter, we can also observe an almost complete disappearance of offers with salaries significantly exceeding the market average.
There is one difference to the previous report - the rates are going down. As in the previous quarter, the salaries for stationary offers are similar to the salaries for remote offers, but are lower than in the previous quarter.
